International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media

To enable universities and colleges of art, design and media to respond to rapidly changing challenges, leading international educational institutes founded Cumulus 15 years ago. This was the starting point of a dynamic academic forum for international top-level universities which today boasts over 100 member institutions from 38 countries.

University representatives and experts meet annually to discuss current and interdisciplinary issues of design theory and research. Following conferences in Lisbon, Copenhagen and Nantes, congresses were held in Warsaw and Singapore, and in June 2007, the HFG Schwäbisch Gmünd was pleased to host the first congress in Germany.

The scientists and experts examine in what way design is influenced by other sciences and fields of knowledge, and how design can influence other disciplines in return. Accordingly, the theme of the 2007 congress was "Crossing boundaries // Transfer into/within/from Design".

Patron of the congress was Prof. Dr. Peter Frankenberg, Minister of Science, Research and Arts of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
